Do You Recognise This Voice?

Been ages since I've written on this thing; probably cos I'm always knackered with lugging that damn Ampeg gear around that someone foisted on me. And regrettably the subject I'm writing about is rather a negative one.
Some pratt is trying to sabbotage Roxyrama gigs by ringing venues, pretending to be a band member and informing them that we cannot now do the gig. The idiot actually left a voice mail at a venue recently so although it's a long shot if anyone has an idea who it may be could they please get in touch. It's not brilliant quality but you never know!

Ampegged

Popped into Sound Control in Leeds briefly to buy a couple of plectrums and ended up walking out with this beauty. Very persuasive with the sales patter is our Sam - makes a lovely cup of tea as well!

SELBY FUN DAY

Played at Selby Family Fun Day last Sunday with Roxyrama, bit worried bout the weather forecast but needn't have; turned out to be a brilliant day. Played a 40 minute set which the crowd seemed to love; goes to show Roxy still have quite a bit of a pull. Big thanks to Andy Acko for arranging the event and asking us to play.

Export Duty

Due to top local band EXPORT being without a bassist at the moment I was asked to fill in at their gig at Korks in Otley last night. It was Amanda's (Alan the singer's good lady) birthday bash and the night can only be described as brilliant. It was a privilege to perform with such a talented bunch of guys though a difficult task to match up to their former excellent bassist Ross Adams who has moved on to newer things. Was great also bumping into many former work colleauges who coincidently are mates with Alan!
Also performing with them at The Three Horse Shoes in Otley on 31st March, AND Friday 6th April when they are headlining the Leeds Biker's Weekend at Eccup near Leeds

Barnsleyrama

played down at The Polish Centre in Barnsley last saturday. This is a cracking venue and we were made really welcome by both the promoter Andy Hutchinson and the appreciative crowd. We had a great night and hope to be back there later in the year.

We make every effort to recreate the sounds AND visuals of Roxy Music, even as far as going to the effort of recreating the above Bryan Ferry photo shoot from the mid 70's; things however got a little out of hand.... The artistic results can be seen

Our special thanks to Barnsley's own Roxy chicks

RAMA AT THE ROSCOE!

Roxyrama made it's debut gig last thursday at the New Roscoe in Leeds, and what a night it was! I can't recall seeing the place as busy and a great big thanks to all who turned up; especially to Mandy, Bob, Kath, Helena & Di; all seasoned Roxy fans who came from as far as the Midlands & Manchester for the event. Bob also plays in a band called No Boundarys who I hope to go and see sometime soon. It must have been a very late night for you and we sincerely thank you for making such an effort to get to the event.

Special thanks also to Hulafrau who did a set early on and were greatly appreciated by all there; we were dead impressed fellas! Be sure to check them out. Funnily enough it turned out by pure coincidence that the bass player was my son's former tutor last year at 6th form college! Small world.

Big thanks also to Lolly Taylor who not only took these photos but also does Bryan O'Ferry's hair!.. as well as his shopping; (lazy git Steve!) Thanks a bundle Lolly!

ROBERT WYATT

Whilst having a spot of lunch down in Louth today I nearly choked on a mushroom in surprise, as sat at the next table was Robert Wyatt and his good lady Alfie. A well known & very respected musician in his own right, Robert has done much work with Roxy's Phil Manzanera and Brian Eno as well as many others; including playing on Dave Gilmour's recent solo album 'On An Island'. I plucked up the courage to talk to him and was really moved by the guy's warmth and friendliness, having a chat about Roxyrama and even broke off eating to pose for a photo with me (which we had to take twice cos the first didn't come out!).

It made my day; it was an honour to meet the great man. My heartfelt best wishes to both you and your wife Robert!

Pics of Robert with other celebrities at Phil Manzanera's wedding can be found HERE and a classic performance of him with Dave Gilmour can be found HERE. But the cream of the crop has gotta be this perfomance.......here.....

ROXYRAMA!

It gives me great pleasure to announce the formation of a new Bryan Ferry & Roxy Music tribute band which should be out on the road very very soon. ROXYRAMA is currently working to a heavy rehearsal schedule with our debut gig in just under five weeks time and our first public gig in the new year all being well.

The band comprises of Steve Richmond; a Bryan Ferry clone!
Dave Albone on drums, Nick Sumner on guitar, Neil Harris on keyboards, James Morrow (aka 'Moz') on saxophone, and yours truly on bass.
Keep posted for updates!

Pint of Export Please!

Finally got round to seeing a band I've wanted to see for ages last night; EXPORT, who were playing down the Ringway in Horsforth, and what a night it was! The floorboards were bouncing from start to end! If you get chance to see these then grab it cos believe me they are BRILLIANT! A big thanks to Alan and the lads for putting on a great night, I and everyone else who was there really did enjoy it!

Atomic At The Roscoe

And thanks also to everyone who braved the heatwave & turned up at Atomic's Roscoe gig last sunday. Special thanks to my Splinter mate Nick who sound engineered for the event and from the postive comments afterwards did a pretty good job of it as well!
A big thanks to all who turned up at Splinter's New Roscoe gig last friday, especially to Baz of Bare Essentials; good to see you again old boy! A big thanks also to Sam of The Erics who kindly helped us out by standing in for Graham who was away shark diving in Turkey or something. Cheers Sam; even if you did turn up late, skint, and cadged beer all night! :-)

Sam pleasing the crowd as only he can

On the subject of the Erics; Sam has kindly offered to stand in for Graham at Splinter's June 9th gig at the New Roscoe, hand injuries and ward security permitting. Cheers Sam!
"Come on now David, get back in the car love and we'll get you home to that nice cosy ward. It's gotta be better than just standing there with a silly smile on your face humming the national anthem all night"

ATOMIC LIVE AT THE BROOKLANDS!

Atomic were back in action last night at a charity bash at the Brooklands Hotel in Barnsley and a good night was had by all; plus plenty of dosh was raised I should imagine.
Also on the bill were an ace outfit from Stoke called LET THERE BE ROCK who played a stunning set and were a great bunch of guys; nice meeting ya fellas!

Many thanks to Jonny Hooker who very kindly helped us out at last friday's Ashington FC gig. Cheers Jonny! After this brief spell of moonlighting Jonny has now resumed normal duties with VIB GYOR. Check them out; the website has excellent links to loads of audio samples etc...

A Chip Off The Old Block

Mega congrats to my 15 year old son Phil who played with his band 'Savannah President' down the Primrose in Leeds last night. They played some blinding versions of songs by the likes of the Chillies, Pixies, Nirvana and a stomping version of 'Whole Lotta Love' by Led Zep which went down a storm.
A big well done to him, Michael & Paddy on guitars and vocals, and to Josh on the drums..
Nice one lads!

As it happens whilst down the Primrose I bumped into a familiar face in the form of Krush of Mid Life Crisis & Erics fame. He did a solo act which brought the house down.
Well done Krush!

Monday, March 27, 2006

Thanks to everyone who turned up at the Roscoe last night for Atomic's gig. To say we hardly see each other at the moment I think we sounded pretty darned good! Hope you all enjoyed it.

Saturday, March 18, 2006

Former Atomic drummer Jonny Hooker has kindly agreed to stand in at Atomic's Ashington FC gig on Friday 31st March. Dave, our normal drummer is unavailable due to his wife having a baby round about that time. Good luck Dave and missus.

Jonny is currently drumming with future mega-stars VIB GYOR (if you haven't heard of them yet, don't worry; you will!). Cheers Jonny!
